Favorite Fall Food to Eat in Princeton This Autumn

Living in the Garden State, fall hits us and we are lucky to have so much autumn bounty — and not only at local farms. Whether inspired by pumpkin, apple or squash, we’ve rounded up our favorite fall flavors around Princeton. FALL ICE CREAM:

What: The Bent Spoon’s Fall Flavors (too many to list!)

The Bent Spoon is our own nationally recognized & award-winning “farm to spoon” ice cream shop. Since 2004 they’ve been crafting seasonal flavors using local & organic ingredients.

has a list of fall flavors they plan to roll out and the list is drool-worthy.  It includes items like: local Concord grape, baked local apple, roasted local & organic pumpkin, lemon-molasses cookie, caramel apple, apple-apple jack, bourbon butternut, chocolate cinnamon, a myriad more of local apple and local cranberry flavors — and this doesn’t include what’s in store for Thanksgiving-time.

 

AUTUMN LOCAL BEER:

What: River Horse Brewing Company’s Hipp-O-Lantern

Where To Get It: Hipp-O-Lantern is available in liquor stores across the tri-state area. As a bonus for Princeton-area folks, they serve it on tap in their Beer Garden each weekend.

Located in Ewing, NJ, River Horse Brewing Company always seems to be creating delicious beers for every season.  According to the brewery, Hipp-O-Lantern is one of the top pumpkin beers on the market. They combine pumpkin puree, cinnamon sticks, fresh ginger root, vanilla beans and black strap molasses that creates a balanced, drinkable beer. The beer averages a 4.35/5 consumer rating with increasing demand each year since it’s debut.

 

APPLE CIDER DONUGHTS

What: Terhune Orchard’s Apple Cider Doughnuts

Terhune’s famous apple cider donuts are made with Terhune Orchards own apple cider and are baked fresh every day.

 

SUPPER PIES:

What: Griggstown Farm’s Supper Pies

Where to Get It: Whole Earth, McCafferty’s & Nassau Street Seafood all carry the pies, as well as Elements & Witherspoon Grill. Call to confirm before going.

Griggstown has 4 choices of Savory Pies: Chicken Pot Pies, Turkey Pot Pies, Vegetarian Pot Pies and Shepherd’s Pie. Their famous poultry pot pies are made with all-natural Griggstown Chicken or Turkey, 8 different kinds of vegetables, homemade gravy, and topped with their all-butter puff pastry. Their vegetarian pot pie is made with an all vegetable stock gravy, 8 different kinds of vegetables and topped with our all-butter puff pastry, while their Shepherd’s Pie is made with ground beef, veal stock gravy, a variety of vegetables and topped with their homemade mashed potatoes.

 

PUMPKIN RAVIOLI:

What: Lucy’s Pumpkin Ravioli

While Lucys carries lots of options for ravioli, they’ve rolled out their fall edition — PUMPKIN. They say that it pairs well with their brown butter sage sauce or their cream sage sauce. Either one sounds good to us!

Lucy’s not only has pumpkin ravioli they are making, they also are channeling autumn with their roasted butternut squash soup, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies & pumpkin bread.

 

FALL COCKTAIL:
What: Metro North’s Spiked Cider

Where: Metro North | 378 Alexander Road, Princeton

Grab Metro North’s Spiked Cider, made with Captain Morgan spiced rum, Berentzen apple liquor, fresh lemon & locally-sourced apple cider. The restaurant also carries a full list of fall drinks, including a Ginger Pear Martini and a Smoked Maple Old-Fashioned.

 

FALL SOUP:

What: Brick Farm Tavern’s Smoked Apple and Squash Soup

FALL PIE:

What:  LiLLiPiES’ NJ Apple Crumb

This weekend  LiLLiPiES starts their October pie menu which includes: NJ Apple Crumb, Sweet Potato Pie, “Snookered Chocolate Chess”,  Bourbon-Pecan, Vegan Cherry. And we can’t wait to try them all.

What: The Pumpkin Lady’s Pumpkin Cheesecake

Call ahead to order. You can dial 609-667-4500 and place your order and schedule a pickup time. She takes credit card over the phone or you can pay with cash/card when you pick up. Grab a small 8” cheesecake (serves about 8 people) for $20 or a large 10” cheesecake (serves 14 people) for $35. If you are looking for an array of items, she does offer 1” bit-sized squares of varying flavors for $25.  They are currently open for curbside pickup.
